Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill twenty (20) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Tutor for the Academic Services for Student Athletes at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

Academics for Student-Athletes ( ASA ) provides holistic academic support for OSU athletes by offering a variety of programs and services, including peer tutoring. Tutors play a vital role in helping athletes thrive in their classes by guiding them as they deepen their understanding of academic concepts and develop skills such as note taking and organization. Tutors are matched with requests based on their expertise in content areas, their major, and their broader OSU coursework.

Position Duties
  • Tutor OSU athletes in content areas and skill development
  • Maintain updated schedule availability and completed courses in ASA online platform
  • Compose thorough notes after each appointment and submit them promptly in the ASA online platform
  • Take initiative to ask questions and bring situations and issues as needed to direct supervisor and/or ASA staff
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries in appointments
  • Evaluate students’ needs and learning styles in appointments and tailor tutoring strategies to match them
  • Follow the ASA professional distance policy and NCAA regulations applicable to academic tutoring
  • Communicate with staff and athletes from a variety of different backgrounds
  • Participate in mandatory training each quarter to advance tutoring strategies
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student:
      Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
