Job SummaryAcademics for Student Athletes (ASA) seeks a full‑time Learning Specialist who will collaborate with ASA staff and Academic Counselors to provide individualized academic support forcola student‑athletes. The role focuses on time‑management strategies, study skills, tutoring, and academic progress monitoring. The Learning Specialist will also lead the new student assessment process, work with campus partners, and support peer educator learning.
Key Responsibilities85% – Serve as Learning Specialist
- Develop and deliver comprehensive academic support services to a caseload of student‑athletes with diverse academic needs.
- Meet with assigned student‑athletes up to five times per week for engaging skill‑building sessions on time management, organization, reading comprehension, and writing development.
- Demonstrate mastery of course expectations and content to support successful completion of course objectives.
- Generate timely academic performance reports for Academic Counselors and collaborate regularly to ensure continuous support.
- Lead the administration of the incoming student assessment process, coordinating testing sessions, evaluating findings, and making service placement recommendations.
- Collaborate with ASA staff and campus partners (e.g., Disability Access Services, Academic Success Center) to connect student‑athletes with appropriate resources.
10% – Contribute to Program Implementation & Enhancement
- Develop and implement educational initiatives, trainings, and workshops for student‑athletes and staff.
- Assist the Head Learning Specialist in planning training materials and sessions for student‑workers.
- Serve as a resource on current best practices in student learning and academic efficacy.
- Participate in ongoing evaluation of academic support programs.
5% – Contribute to the Team Effort
- Accept additional responsibilities assigned by the Head Learning Specialist and Director of ASA.
- Maintain respectful professional .
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and conferences as budget allows.
- Collaborate with colleagues and partners to achieve departmental and university goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, psychology, counseling, or related field.
- One year of experience with academically challenged high school or university students, including those with learning disabilities.
- Experience teaching learning strategies and developing academic interventions.
- Experience supporting student academics in one‑on‑one and group settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds.
- Strong written and oral communication, computer, and organizational skills.
- Master’s degree in education, psychology, counseling, or related field.
- One year of professional full‑time experience providing direct academic support to Division I student‑athletes.
- Experience administering and evaluating learning assessments.
- Knowledge of disability regulations and ADA laws in higher education.
Typical office environment with occasional evening and weekend commitments.
