Orange Media Network (OMN) PRISM Editor-in-Chief
Position Information:
One (1) part‑time PRISM Editor‑in‑Chief for the Orange Media Network at Oregon State University, maximum 24 hours per week.
The PRISM Editor‑in‑Chief supervises the art & literary journal, including the print edition, its website and all social media platforms. Responsibilities include content curation, design oversight, volunteer coordination, event planning, and compliance with university policies.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise the creation of the print edition of PRISM art and literary journal to publish by week 7 of Spring Term. The print edition will be at least 100 pages and consist of the highest quality pieces submitted by OSU students.
- Ensure all pieces are solicited and received by week 9 of fall term and that production and design of the print edition is completed and issue published by week 7 of spring term.
- Establish a review committee of volunteers and guide the committee through the review process.
- Ensure staff and review committee volunteers are well‑versed in best practices of critiquing art and literature, and maintain a professional environment during evaluations.
- Supervise and ensure the creation of an art/literary podcast to be posted on the PRISM website. Delegation to volunteers is allowed.
- Update PRISM website and/or blog regularly with stories, photos, and interactive features.
- Maintain PRISM social media platforms at least five times a week with relevant content from the OSU campus and beyond.
- Organize and conduct public events (ideally one each in fall, winter, spring); one of these events will be a launch party to coincide with the print edition publication.
- Ensure that all articles have been copy edited and that all names, places, etc. are correct before publication is sent to a commercial printer.
- Check all submissions for plagiarism prior to publishing.
- Fully participate in weekly OMN Student Leadership meetings.
- Work to ensure that OMN program content is current, relevant, and consistent with OMN’s mission, vision, and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by adviser.
- Meet regularly with OMN adviser to review feedback and areas for improvement.
- Respond to emails, messages, team chats, and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN.
- Report monthly to the OMN Advisory Board with updates, analysis, and insightful information on engagement, staffing, strategies, and accolades.
- Hold and post 20 regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, with at least half during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term.
- Follow all OMN policies and procedures and hold all staff and volunteers to them as well.
- Maintain academic enrollment in a high school, community college, or university and pursue a program or course of study that meets academic standing requirements.
- Meet the applicable minimal enrollment standards for the current academic level (see table below).
- High School:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program. - Undergraduate/Post‑baccalaureate: 6 credit hours per term.
- Undergraduate International (USCIS): 12 credit hours per term.
- Graduate: 5 credit hours per term.
- Graduate International: 9 credit hours per term.
Required Qualifications
- Served as a member of paid OMN staff for at least 6 months or as a volunteer OMN staff member for at least 12 months.
- Able to create content for online and print platforms.
- Knowledge of design software.
- Has a strong social media presence and recognizes the role of social media in soliciting work from a broad range of contributors.
- Is organized and reliable.
- Is a strong writer, communicator, and comfortable with public speaking.
- Is experienced with coaching and giving/receiving feedback.
- Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations.
- Is knowledgeable and experienced in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and partners.
