POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director of Retention & Success, the College & Career Success Coach will provide a holistic, proactive approach to assist students in achieving their educational and career goals by providing developmental academic advising. Through the management of an assigned caseload, the College & Career Success Coach will assist students with identifying educational and career options while advocating, assessing, and facilitating access to appropriate resources.

GENERAL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In collaboration with the student and upon review of career assessment information, identify the appropriate Navarro College Track (Metamajor) and career Pathway, assist with the analysis of career exploration, including possible career outcomes and their implications; establish the academic pathway and career goals, and establish an action plan for students to explore alternative careers and related academic/certificate program adjacency.
  • Use case management principles of advocacy, assessment, and service facilitation to advance the achievement of student goals and link students with appropriate resources.
  • Utilize available and appropriate technology to: monitor academic progress of students toward degree and/or certificate completion, identify current and potential academic and registration needs, recognize milestones, document ongoing case management activities, and document all pertinent student information, communication, and status updates.
  • Provides academic advising, mentoring, class scheduling, and registration assistance for students.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to proactive "early alerts" of assigned students. Provide information and referrals to students needing services such as: tutoring, testing, career entry, counseling, financial aid, disability services, etc.
  • Teach students the skills to self‑navigate to degree completion utilizing site information, student online system, and site resources.
  • Assists students through a student‑centered advising model that contributes to student success and holistic (biopsychosocial) student development.
  • Assists students with career exploration and identification of related majors/fields of study.
  • Advises students on academic programs so they reach goals such as program completion, graduation, successful university transfer and/or career.
  • Maintains familiarity with programs and services on and off site in order to provide students with resources to appropriate agencies.
  • Represents the College in the Community at job fairs, high school programs, and other Community events as needed.
  • Maintain familiarity with other departments to be up to date regarding enrollment information, degree programs, and internship/career options.
  • Prepares and presents educational seminars, outreach, and group advising sessions as needed.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation (NSO) and Preview Days as needed.
  • Serves on college committees as assigned/invited.
  • Participate in required professional development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attend annual professional development training as required.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and supervising qualified work‑study students as needed.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship, communication, organizational, and promotional skills required.
  • Understanding of human and student development theories.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the Spanish language is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy, Pathways, and the case management model of advising.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals coupled with interaction with community leaders, city, county, and school officials, administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to utilize computer technology to access information, to maintain records, to generate reports and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.
  • Capable of handling multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to function as a team player.
  • Willingness to work in a busy environment with numerous interruptions.
