Due to the nature of the work you must hold SC Cleared minimum and must be eligible for DV Clearance.
Nex Gen Associates are working with a leading Defence-focused organisation to recruit an experienced Applications and Infrastructure. This is a predominantly on-site role based in Corsham supporting critical national infrastructure within a secure operational setting.
This role spans both software administration and network hardware implementation, making it ideal for candidates with experience and interest in both domains. Working closely with the Operations Team, the engineer will ensure services remain secure, up to date and aligned with operational requirements. The successful candidate will have at least three years of experience in administering and maintaining resilient software patching and update programs, as well as server administration—particularly within VMware environments.
Additionally, they will possess a proven track record of building racked network solutions in accordance with detailed technical instructions.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive patching and update plan to keep all system software current and secure.
- Administer and maintain the server infrastructure, with a focus on VMware environments.
- Update and manage the Asset Register using JIRA to ensure accurate configuration tracking.
- Design, build and configure Windows-based workstations, including the implementation of Group Policies.
- Create and execute Power Shell scripts to automate administrative tasks and improve efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve system issues across both software and networked hardware components.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including Work Instructions and process reviews.
- Assemble, configure and re-wire network hardware in accordance with established build instructions and standards.
- Represent the Operations Team as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in meetings and workshops.
- System Administration:
Minimum 3 years of experience administering high-security hardware and software environments. - Patching & Updates:
Proven ability to perform software and patch updates across Microsoft, Cisco Catalyst, Thales and EJBCA systems. - Server Administration:
Strong competency in server virtualisation, including creating virtual machines and managing VMware environments. - Workstation Builds:
Skilled in building Windows 11 workstations, implementing Group Policies and running Power Shell scripts to optimize performance. Builds may follow existing standards or new specifications developed by the Applications and Infrastructure Team. - CLI:
Practical experience of Linux based CLIs. - Troubleshooting:
Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across both software and network hardware, applying logical analysis to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. - Communications:
Must be able to clearly and concisely present technically complex concepts to a broad audience. - Security Awareness:
Experience working in high-classification environments (preferably Government), with a clear understanding of security constraints and compliance requirements. - Clearance:
Must hold DV (Developed Vetting) security clearance. - Mobility:
Full UK driving license and access to own transport, as the Corsham site is not well served by public transport. - Public Key Infrastructure (PKI):
Working knowledge of PKI concepts and processes is highly desirable to support secure certificate management and cryptographic operations. - High Security Module (HSM): A working understanding of HSM hardware is desirable with a formal qualification on Thales Luna HSMs or similar being beneficial.
- JIRA Asset Management:
Experience in maintaining accurate asset records and configuring JIRA to enhance functionality and reporting capabilities. - Yubikey:
An understanding of Yubikey systems and configuration would be beneficial. - SCIDA Compliance:
Familiarity with SCIDA processes to ensure all infrastructure builds and updates meet compliance requirements. - Policy Awareness:
Understanding of JSP 440 security policies and their application within high-assurance environments.
