Function
The trainer works under the direct supervision of the Administrative Officer, performs duties necessary to assure safety for bus drivers and student attendants that are trained and qualified in accordance with applicable state and local regulations.

Reports To:
Administrative Officer

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare required oral and written reports, information and briefing as required
  • Provides instructions and conducts workshops/seminars concerning training and safety
  • Ability to drive a variety of school buses
  • Ability to design and maintain a tracking system for the purpose of record keeping on each employee's qualifications, requirements and retraining assigned to transportation.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe working area and practice safe operating procedures.
  • Assists in the development of SOP and policies in the area of training, safety, drivers and attendants.
  • Ability to design and maintain training programs and procedures which will ensure all potential candidates meet or exceed federal, state and local guidelines.
  • Advises the Administrative Officer or Director on all matters pertaining to training and safety.
  • Schedules initial safety training programs for school bus drivers, bus attendants and safety monitors.
  • Plans and supervises safe driving and safe working methods and training procedures as specifically required.
  • Conducts selection, interviews, screenings and evaluation of potential school bus drivers, bus attendants and safety monitors.
  • Conduct new employee orientation for Transportation employees.
  • Responsible for conducting investigations of vehicular incidents/crashes involving school buses and other District owned vehicles as requested; participate as a the Chairperson of the Incident/Crash Review Committee. On call 24 hours a day.
  • Maintain confidential, complete and accurate records and statistics of District vehicle accidents.
  • Schedule and record completion of required school bus evacuation drills each school year as required by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Represent the Transportation Department at the District annual Job Fair recruiting for Bus Drivers, Bus Attendants and Safety Monitors.
  • Ensures employee safety, welfare, wellness and health checks for the Transportation employees including driver's license and certificate renewals, medical expiration and training hours required for the renewal of the bus driver certificate.
  • Conduct monthly audits for the Bus Driver DOT Physical and License Renewal.
  • Assists in the evaluation of drivers and attendants and makes appropriate recommendations concerning each person's capabilities and abilities.
  • Responsible for the design and maintenance of an appropriate training library.
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of required state reports.
  • Acts as the Office of Transportation Safety Coordinator for Risk Management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrative Officer or Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In coordination with the transportation managers, schedules and supervises training activities performed by school bus drivers/trainers.
  • Assist Managers and Director as required; dispatch drivers as needed, perform the duties of the supervisor in the supervisors absence.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Challenging situations; in and out of District travel; light lifting
