• The Vehicle Driver I operates and maintains the motor vehicles on location, transporting cargo and passengers on short and long-distance trips. Generally, the Vehicle Driver I is the frontline of meal delivery to the food service team which ensures proper meal service and sanitation requirements for all residents. This includes transporting the food carts to the units/homes promptly and in a sanitary manner to the correct location.
  
  Assumes the duties of a food service worker when short staffed or assigned. Has no supervisory or financial responsibilities but is accountable for assigned vehicles, preparing and maintaining forms or records pertaining to vehicle operations and ensuring vehicles are scheduled for general maintenance. This person works under the general supervision of a Cook or Food Service Manager, depending on SSLC structure, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  
  Completion of work requires the use of established methods and/or techniques and decisions are varied but based on well-defined guidelines.
• Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
• Operates motor vehicles such as vans and trucks and trailers and transports passengers, cargo, and food carts. Performs physical parts of job including requirements of standing for long periods of time, carrying, pushing and lifting of items more than 45 lbs. Drives a state vehicle with delivery trailer attached.
• Delivers food, supplemental formulas, and beverages to dormitories/homes/units on a predetermined schedule or as needed, and picks up carts after each meal to meet the nutritional needs of consumers. Manages time and follows scheduled routes.
• Stores and make frozen food breakouts to meet weekly requirements of food items for menu. Stores food items in freezers and chill boxes using proper rotation procedures and perfroms food breakout ensuring proper thawing.
• Restocks dining rooms with cleaning materials, utensils and other supplies to ensure proper serving equipment and sanitation materials are available.
• Checks vehicle and trailer at beginning of work shift for proper operation and cleanliness and reports major problems to the supervisor to ensure delivery capabilities.
• Prepares and maintains records and logs related to vehicle operations and breakouts.
• Performs basic vehicle maintenance, makes minor repairs, and fuels vehicles. Accomplishes daily operator maintenance before, during and after each trip as evidenced by no reports from motor pool showing maintenance problems.
• Ensures that vehicle cargo/food cart capacity is not exceeded, driver and passengers use safety restraints, and cargo/food carts are distributed to reduce maximum axle loading.
• Secures and protects cargo/food carts. Complies with state and local traffic laws as evidenced by no citations.
