Forklift Operator

Overview

This is an entry-level role responsible for operating powered industrial trucks (PITs), small equipment (Forklift), and internal transfer vehicles (ITVs) to handle safely and transport cargo within terminal operations. This position requires completion of classroom and practical training, as well as proficiency in operating equipment and vehicles under various conditions while adhering to safety and operational. Required to be proficient in the safe handling and transfer of general cargo in the terminal, on vessels, in the yard, on and off trailers, in and out of railcars and containers.

• Operate PITs with a capacity of up to 15,000 pounds to transfer cargo on vessels, trailers, vans, railcars, and containers.
• Safely operate the following equipment:
  Forklift (up to 15K lbs), Sweeper, Skid Steer, Water Truck, and/or Yard Jockey.
• Conduct proper pre-use inspections, start-up, and shut-down procedures.
• Operate machines with attachments for handling various commodities.
• Follow general driving guidelines, including working on ramps and grades, reversing, turning, and stacking.
• Ensure equipment is operated within safe working load limits.
• Follow the rules for unattended machinery and the requirements for lifting personnel.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Completion of PIT and vehicle operation training (classroom and practical).
• Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of cargo handling and vehicle safety.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a fast-paced environment.
• TWIC card required (or ability to obtain).
• Reliable transportation and punctuality.

• Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, including heat, rain, wind, and humidity.
• Requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, and operating machinery and vehicles.
• May involve lifting, carrying, and moving equipment or cargo.
• Exposure to noise, dust, and moving mechanical parts.
• Must adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.
