Overview
The Gulf Stream Marine Crane Technician II position is a senior technical maintenance role responsible for advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on crane systems, including electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical components. This role ensures cranes operate safely and efficiently, supports complex maintenance projects, and mentors junior technicians.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in crane or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, PLC programming, and diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company insurability standards.
- TWIC card required or ability to obtain.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to work at heights over 150’ and in awkward positions.
- Frequent climbing of crane ladders and staircases.
- Ability to lift tools and equipment to 60 lbs.
- Exposure to outdoor elements (heat, rain, cold) and hazardous environments.
- Must wear required PPE (hard hat, eye/ear protection, etc.).
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Occasional travel may be required (approximately 10%).
- Advanced Crane Maintenance & Repairs: Conform to all safety rules and regulations. Repair and maintain heavy lifting equipment, including mobile cranes. Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices; make adjustments as necessary. Lubricate moving parts and perform preventive maintenance. Fabricate special lifting attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices as needed. Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on electrical/electronic components, PLC drive control systems, communication systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic assemblies.
Read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams, service manuals, and engineering drawings. Replace, repair, and adjust major electrical/electronic parts at a high level of complexity. Disassemble units and inspect equipment for defects. Restore crane systems to OEM specifications and operational standards. - Troubleshooting & Technical Expertise: Diagnose root causes of failures across electrical, electronic, PLC, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Utilize diagnostic tools and software for electrical and electronic systems. Recommend system improvements based on root cause analysis.
- Documentation & Reporting: Submit detailed inspection and maintenance reports; ensure all paperwork is accurate and up-to-date. Maintain accurate logs of repairs, parts usage, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Leadership & Development: Mentor junior crane technicians and mechanics. Assist in training programs for advanced crane maintenance techniques. Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations teams regarding equipment.
