Job Summary

Diagnoses, repairs, reconditions, and adjusts key systems and components of trucks and related equipment. This mid‑level position generally requires more than three years of experience and/or demonstrated job‑relevant knowledge and skills. The incumbent performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is indirectly supervised, self‑starting, and often a team member on a large project.

The incumbent is expected to model the following practices daily:

2) collaborate with key internal/external resources;
3) participate in ongoing self‑development.

Essential Functions
  • Model, promote, reinforce, and reward consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose moderately complex engine malfunctions and failures with direction and minimum supervision.
  • Perform thorough engine and related equipment repairs on trucks and trailers with direction and minimum supervision.
  • Disassemble, inspect, determine parts required, and reassemble to factory specifications within TRGs.
  • Provide quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks, including road testing.
  • Use computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprogramming engines.
  • Complete documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition, and returns.
  • Interpret and utilize information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletins.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customers' needs.
  • Project professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to lower level technicians.
  • Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training.
  • Consistently maintain an average rework of less than 1%.
  • Ensure a positive average variance consistently.
  • Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Require regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to meet all requirements as outlined in Leveling Description Guide, including basic and advanced system knowledge (Electrical, Engine, AC/Heat, Fuel, Compressed Air, Cooling, Rear Differential, Intake/Exhaust, Drive Train, Clutches, Tier IV Emissions, Transmissions).
  • Solid knowledge of equipment and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Sound knowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and electronic systems diagnostic tooling.
  • Operational and control skills of vehicle fleet.
  • Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Verbal communication skills and exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift.
  • Ability to operate hand, power, pneumatic tools, and overhead crane.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle on public roads and make precisely coordinated manual movements.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information; listen to and understand spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to complete HOLT's VBL classes and apply the tools.
Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; accreditation from a technical school or applicable skilled trades program required.
  • At least two years of experience required; three or more preferred.
  • CDL – Class A or B preferred.
  • ASE – Medium/Heavy Truck Certification (4 or more) preferred.
  • AC Certification Required.
  • Brake System Certification Required.
  • Has met HDSI requirements for Service Tech 1; ability to complete HOLT's VBL classes and apply the tools.
  • On‑going safety training required.
