Position: LEAD ELECTRICIAN

LEAD ELECTRICIAN role at Del Mar College - Corporate Services

Position Information

The purpose of this position is to lead and coordinate electrical activities such as construction, maintenance and repair of electric power, lighting, and communications systems of College buildings and other College facilities by performing the following duties. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of advanced study or training past the high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years related experience.
  • Master Electrical License in the State of Texas.
  • Valid Driver’s License with ability to be insurable.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must have the job knowledge, skills and abilities commensurate with that of a Master Electrician License issued by the State of Texas.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and local codes, and ability to incorporate them into design and work.
  • Knowledge of differing electrical test equipment and the ability to interpret the results.
  • Knowledge of MEP systems and other work related systems.
  • Knowledge of power/hand tools, materials, and safe work practices used in the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of electrical applications for high voltage and low voltage electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills.
  • Skilled at installing, repairing, and maintaining all types of electrical system equipment and components.
  • Skilled at computing electrical circuit loads and power requirements.
  • Skilled at following and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, schematics and shop drawings.
  • Ability to generate electrical shop drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to install entire electrical systems including conduit and wiring.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical wiring/circuit issues.
  • Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, and crawling, and to work outdoors during inclement weather.

Job Duties

  • Interpret College policies to electricians and enforce all safety rules; interpret specifications, blueprints, and work orders to workers and assign tasks; and maintain time and work production records.
  • Recommend measures to improve work methods, equipment performance, and quality of work products;
    Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew; establish or adjust work tasks to meet work schedules; and assist workers in solving work problems. Supervisory responsibilities. Budget responsibilities as related to area of responsibility.
  • Plan wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, fuse boxes, lighting, and appliances; inspect wiring and fixtures for conformance to College specifications and/or local, regional, or national electrical codes; estimate, requisition, and inspect materials; and performance activities of workers led.
  • As a Lead Electrician, provide first-level supervision of other DMC Electrician(s). Supervision will include assigning work orders, scheduling work within the parameters of DMC Policy and Physical Facilities Department operational needs. Provide performance evaluations for the subordinate Electrician(s).
  • Will perform other related work as needed or assigned.
