The SMR Plant Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of processing equipment at the Javelina Processing Plant. This position is responsible for monitoring production variables, performing equipment inspections, troubleshooting operational issues, supporting maintenance activities, and maintaining compliance with all Process Safety Management requirements. Operators contribute directly to plant reliability, environmental compliance, and production targets while adhering to strict safety standards.

This role is offered at three levels (I, II, and III), with responsibilities and expectations increasing based on experience, technical proficiency, operational independence, and leadership capability. Operators will progressively cross-train across plant process areas, with senior-level operators completing required curriculum to qualify as board operators.

Responsibilities (Vary by Level):

Entry-Level (I):

* Assists senior operators with routine unit rounds and monitoring of operating variables.

Learns plant systems, equipment, and standard operating procedures through structured on-the-job training.

* Supports troubleshooting efforts under guidance of experienced operators.

* Performs chemical inventories and assists with minor maintenance support tasks.

* Collects process samples and records readings accurately.

* Maintains detailed and accurate operator logs.

* Demonstrates progression through required training milestones and cross-training curriculum.

Intermediate (II):

* Independently monitors and controls assigned processing units.

* Performs troubleshooting of routine equipment and process issues.

* Prepares equipment for maintenance activities and ensures compliance with LOTO procedures.

* Issues work permits within assigned units.

* Completes unit rounds and maintains comprehensive shift turnover documentation.

* Supports onboarding and training of entry-level operators.

* Demonstrates proficiency within at least one process area and continues cross-training across additional systems.

Senior (III):

* Operates and controls multiple process areas with minimal supervision.

* Leads troubleshooting of complex operational and equipment issues.

* Serves as a technical resource and mentor to junior operators.

* Reviews and signs off on operator relief logs.

* Coordinates operational response during abnormal events and critical activities.

* Interfaces with maintenance, engineering, and leadership during high-impact operations.

* Completes required training and curriculum to qualify as board operator.

* Contributes to operational decision-making and shift-level leadership.

Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

* Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability.

* Understanding of safe work practices and Process Safety Management requirements.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Strong communication and documentation skills.

* Ability to work outdoors in an industrial environment with potential exposure to noise, heat, and hazardous materials.

* Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and callouts..

Experience:

* Entry-Level (I): 0-1 year of refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, or oilfield experience preferred.

* Intermediate (II): 3+ years of refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, or oilfield experience, with demonstrated proficiency in assigned process area.

* Senior Level (III): 5+ years of refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, or oilfield experience, with demonstrated multi-area proficiency.

Experience with DCS systems preferred.
