As a Supervisor Technical Training you will supervise Technical Training staff. Identify technical training requirements for each area of the refinery, determine training objectives resulting from these requirements, and identifies individuals to fill technical training roles.
This position works closely with the HR department to ensure all facility training programs align with organization objectives, workforce requirements, and compliance standards. This role tracks training qualifications, monitors KPI’s, supports audits, and maintains training records to meet compliance expectations.
Job Duties:
- Ensures the facility training programs are aligned with the aims and objectives of the organization as a whole.
- Supervises, monitors, and provides feedback to personnel who are assigned to the Technical Training Department.
- Collaborates with HR to support workforce development initiatives and ensure training efforts align with talent management, succession planning, and organizational development strategies.
- Assists HR in identifying skill gaps and recommending targeted training solutions to support employee career development.
- Assists HR in evaluating the training implications of organizational changes or restructuring and developing transition training plans.
- Supports recruitment effort by providing input on technical competencies required for roles.
- Communicates with HR Manager/Director to identify and evaluate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the site’s training program.
Reports results to Corporate Technical Training. - Identifies and coordinates subject matter experts (SMEs) to conduct technical training.
- Provides management and oversight of the site’s technical training resources, which may include Learning Management Systems (LMSs), e-learning tools, training aids, training library, facilities, computer labs, multimedia equipment, training props, etc.
- Sustains an open line of communication with the facility’s leadership team and first line supervision to assess and target training needs.
- Maintains a partnership and open line of communication with the Corporate Technical Training Department and the LEAD Department.
- Develops, manages, and monitors training budgets.
- Ensures 100% compliance with all required training (i.e., safety, environmental, etc.)
- Participates in Corporate Health, Safety, PSM, and Environmental audits to verify that site training is properly documented and meets or exceeds organizational requirements.
- Serves as the primary contact during audits of training records.
- Develops ongoing training plans to provide employees with government and company required training.
- Serves as liaison between company, federal, state, and local government agencies.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Bill Greehey Refinery, required.
- High School diploma or GED.
- 8 year of training development experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area preferred.
- Process operations experience in a refinery environment preferred.
