The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.

This position is available for Morning, Evening and Night shifts on multiple homes.
Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)- Oversee the daily operations and delivery of quality programs and services on the assigned home; arrange work schedules to ensure adequate supervision/coverage.
- Provide leadership to, and supervise the activities of DSPs on the home; hire, train, coach, and manage time and leave accounting; promote professional growth.
- Model and coach DSP IV “Charge” staff to build supervisory/leadership skills; monitor habilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, mealtime coordination, and plans for each shift.
- Ensure care, treatment, training, and support activities are completed and documented; collaborate with other disciplines; support staff in implementing program procedures, policies, and laws.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary living environment; ensure infection control; monitor health care needs; manage risk; document unusual incidents; drive continuous quality improvement in the assigned home.
- Provide guidance and assistance to staff on program procedures and laws (e.g., TAC); participate in IDTs and develop/implement individual plans.
- Attend meetings, prepare reports, and serve in leadership roles as needed; drive staff performance and retention efforts.
- Coordinate with other departments and DDS teams to ensure integrated services and programming.
- Direct staff during emergencies; ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents; supervise and document staff activities; provide feedback and development opportunities.
- Ensure the home meets health care needs of individuals under medical supervision; perform first aid as appropriate; conduct monthly emergency drills.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement and compliance with relevant agreements; participate in disaster response/COOP activities if required.
Skills And Abilities

- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly.
- Ability to speak and read English; sound judgment in critical incidents; calm action in emergencies.
- Proper body mechanics, lifting techniques, and CPR/SUR capabilities; ability to train others.
- Flexibility in handling work assignments; knowledge of individual care techniques and related programs.
- Ability to work well with others and as part of a team; competency in scheduling, training, guiding, and leading staff.
- Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days; must provide driving record if out-of-state license held.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Two (2) years’ experience working with people with developmental and/or physical disabilities required.
- Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and supervisory/leadership roles preferred.
- Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, LEIE).
- Selective Service registration for males aged 18–25; random drug testing for state employees.
- Flexibility in work hours; may require overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years old; E-Verify used; bring I-9 documentation on first day.
