Job SummaryAs a Lead Surgical Technologist at HCA Healthcare, you will guide the operating‑room team, maintain a sterile field, and support surgeons to deliver the safest, most advanced surgical care. You will participate in training, lead team briefings, and contribute to continuous improvement of peri‑operative processes.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
- Prepare for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
- Recognize and identify different surgical instruments and their applications.
- Display appropriate knowledge of anatomy and physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures.
- Maintain a safe sterile field through proper positioning of sharps, labeling of medications, and understanding of electrocautery to prevent fires.
- Participate in “timeout” briefings with the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
- Set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instruments to prevent retained foreign objects.
- Concurrently assist the surgeon during a procedure while maintaining competency in the specific surgery.
- Differentiated sutures and their applications to support wound closure.
- Close a surgical site under physician supervision using appropriate suture techniques.
- Adopt a teamwork approach throughout the peri‑operative phase.
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role.
- Certification in Surgical Technology or verifiable Surgical Tech experience prior to 9/1/2009.
- Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Preferred: 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience.
- High School Graduate / GED.
