Position Overview
The Corpus Christi District is seeking Engineering Assistants (EAs) with an EIT certificate to design highway projects, inspect construction, and pursue a Professional Engineering license. The EA program is a structured, multi‑year training path offering rotational experience, mentorship, and career growth.
SalaryEngineering Assistant II (B21): $54,278 – $87,046
Engineering Assistant III (B22): $57,614 – $93,138
Location & WorkCorpus Christi District HQ, 1701 S Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi 78416. 5% travel required. Full‑time day shift M‑F 8am‑5pm. Onsite.

- Assist during emergencies and inclement weather.
- Train less experienced assistants, specialists, and technicians.
- Collect engineering data at project sites.
- Participate in the EA career development program (rotations, training, continuing education).
- Construction inspection and material sampling/testing.
- Perform engineering calculations for plan quantities as part of PS&E preparation.
- Prepare and check plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) and designs.
- Review/design details of bridge and structural elements.
- Use automated roadway/structural/hydraulic design programs and computer‑assisted design/engineering systems.
- Other assigned job responsibilities.
- Lead and train less experienced assistants, specialists, and technicians.
- Review engineering work for calculation errors and compliance with applicable federal and state laws and industry standards.
- Prepare drawings and exhibits to support public involvement.
- Pre‑review advanced and specialized engineering design work.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Engineering Assistant II
: 1 year of engineering‑related experience. No supervisory experience required. - Engineering Assistant III
: 2 years of engineering‑related experience. Passing Professional Engineer (PE) exam prior to gaining required experience may substitute for two years of experience.
- Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required).
- Safety Impact Certificate.
- Transportation design engineering principles and practices.
- Plan review, PS&E preparation, and compliance requirements.
- Traffic engineering fundamentals and terminology.
- Computer‑aided drafting and design systems.
- Applying engineering fundamentals and advanced design/drafting.
- Work in various environmental conditions, including extreme cold and heat (below 32°F or above 100°F for more than an hour).
- Wear protective gear and personal protective equipment as required.
- Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs; light work: lift up to 20 lbs.
- Pre‑employment physical exam required.
