Assists with a Texas Pre-freshmen Engineering Program (TexPREP) on an assigned college campus. Work includes assisting and mentoring middle and high school students and providing instructional support to program instructors. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Essential Duties- Mentors students in a Texas Pre-Freshmen Engineering Program (TexPREP) encouraging the development of STEM pursuits and educational achievement.
- Assists with creating and maintaining a safe and respectable student learning environment.
- Attends classes, laboratories, field trips, research and study, and other program activities, and assists the instructor and students.
- Assists in the preparation of program activities and events.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Education:
Enrolled in college at least 1 year with a minimum of 12 earned credit hours.
Other Conditions- Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
- Must be at least 17 years of age, a student currently enrolled at a college or university in good standing with an overall minimum GPA of 2.5.
Education:
- Completion of Calculus I or other advanced math courses; and/or currently a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math major.
Experience:
- Working with youth in out-of-school programs, teaching, or other educational programs.
- Some skill in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Ability to:
- Communicate effectively.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures.
- Protect sensitive and confidential information.
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
- Light work:
Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs. - Sitting - prolonged periods of time.
- Standing - prolonged periods of time.
- Repetitive Motion - substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
