Summer TexPREP Program Mentor – Corpus Christi (Job #2600731)

Overview

TxDOT’s Tex Prep partnership seeks a Summer Program Mentor in Corpus Christi, TX. The mentor will work on the Oso Creek Campus at 7002 Yorktown Blvd (Corpus Christi, TX 78414). Salary is A11 $ 19.00/hr, paid hourly, nonexempt.

Shift: Monday–Thursday 8:30 am–5:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am–12:00 pm. On‑site location. No travel required.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor middle and high school students in the TexPREP program, encouraging STEM pursuits and educational achievement.
  • Create and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Attend classes, laboratories, field trips, research, study, and other program activities; assist instructors and students as needed.
  • Assist in preparing program activities and events.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrollment in college for at least 1 year with a minimum of 12 earned credit hours.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 am–5:30 pm.
  • At least 17 years of age, currently enrolled at a college or university in good standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of Calculus I or other advanced math courses; and/or a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math major.
  • Experience working with youth in out‑of‑school programs, teaching, or other educational programs.
  • Computer proficiency with applicable programs and systems.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; follow safety standards; protect sensitive and confidential information.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
  • Light work: lift up to 20 lbs at a time; frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Repetitive motion: substantial movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
