About the Organization

The Texas A&M Agri Life Research and Extension Center at Corpus Chrismainn was officially opened in February 1974 and dedicated in May 1974. The Center administratively oversees research at satellite stations in Beeville and Flour Bluff, focusing on agricultural economics, animal science, crop physiology, digital agriculture, entomology, family and consumer health, forage agronomy, mariculture, rangeland management, soil and crop sciences, and youth development. It partners with 18 county Extension offices and over 50 professional educators to deliver science‑based programs throughout the district, celebrating 50 years of service to the community and a commitment to education and innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with research faculty to develop a vision for the Center’s future role in agriculture, food, and water science locally, statewide, and globally.
  • Provide intellectual, philosophical, and strategic leadership to enhance research, extension, and teaching missions.
  • Develop strategic responses to agriculture‑related challenges, especially for the region’s food, feed, fiber, and value‑added processing industries.
  • Facilitate the creation of research teams to pursue internal and external grant opportunities, engaging faculty from Agri Life Research, Agri Life Extension, and other partners.
  • Manage human and fiscal resources and build a growing portfolio of extramural funding to advance the Center’s research capacity and reputation.
  • Represent the Center to state and federal agencies, private organizations, and key industry groups such as cotton, sorghum, cattle, and aquaculture commodities, and international organizations.
  • Lead coordination of efforts between research, teaching, and extension faculty to create synergistic relationships.
  • Coordinate with Agri Life Research administration to plan initiatives, communicate research and extension information, and pursue future fundraising opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with Agri Life Research administration, other Center Directors, department heads, Agri Life Extension leadership, and Texas A&M University System components.
  • Develop collaborative leadership between the Center Director and the District Extension Administrator for research and extension programs and operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in an agricultural or closely related discipline.
  • Experience managing human and fiscal resources.
  • Recognized leader in interdisciplinary agricultural sciences, with a strong research background evidenced by highly cited, multi‑authored, peer‑reviewed publications, a history of grant funding, honors, and status appropriate for a full‑time faculty appointment at the rank of Professor.
  • Expertise in highly quantitative research focusing on interdisciplinary integration.
  • Demonstrated history of working effectively in applied, basic, and integrated sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholder groups, identify critical challenges, and conduct solutions‑oriented research.
  • Demonstrated success in building, supporting, and leading interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English.
  • Effective communicator with faculty, staff, administration, and stakeholders.
  • Effective team manager and motivator for Center employees.
  • Clear commitment to the mission of a land‑grant university system.
  • Skilled in strategic planning and development to advance the Center’s goals.
  • Coordinated with broad‑based partners to address emerging agricultural, food, and water challenges nationwide and internationally.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
