Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to teach courses during the regular semester, which may include online courses and/or dual‑credit/early college classes. Travel will be required for dual‑credit instruction.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline.
• Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.
• Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction.
• Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students with differing educational backgrounds in meeting course outcomes.
• Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
• Evaluate students to measure progress toward stated course outcomes, following college grade and appeal procedures.
• Review, evaluate, and recommend effective use of student learning materials.
• Provide students with a written, accessible syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines.
• Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
• Hold scheduled office hours (at least one hour daily) and encourage conferences with students.
• Assist in academic advising of declared majors and with marketing/recruiting activities.
• Review and revise assessments of program and institutional outcomes to support systemic improvement.
• Participate in self‑evaluation processes, establish goals, and maintain professional standards through development activities.
• Serve on committees, accept special assignments, and participate in institutional activities such as convocation, graduation, and accreditation maintenance.
• Participate in college planning, budget priorities, and community activities that promote the college mission.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to plan course instruction based on an approved syllabus/outline.
• Ability to use a variety of teaching styles to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s of Science degree in the Biological Sciences and 18 graduate hours in biology courses.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences with coursework in anatomy and/or physiology.
• Experience teaching college‑level General Biology.
• Experience teaching college‑level online courses or documented success in an online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
• Ability to teach lower‑division majors’ and health‑science biology courses.
• Ability to teach and communicate with students from varied multicultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge of teaching strategies and methods that enhance student success.
• Knowledge of learning college and/or learning communities.
