Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist in meeting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of a group of young children and model for CDEC students’ appropriate teaching and care‑giving practices. This is accomplished by assisting in writing and implementing daily activity plans; helping children with physical skills, self‑esteem, social, cognitive, and communication skills; and observing children for developmental milestones.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (documentation required within two weeks of employment).
  • Food Handler’s Certificate (documentation required within two weeks of employment).
  • Six (6) months teaching experience in a center‑based child care setting or six (6) months of closely related experience with children 0‑8 years (Level I).
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (submission required) or twelve (12) credit hours in Child Development or Early Childhood Education (Level II and III).
  • Two (2) years teaching experience in a center‑based child care setting or two (2) years closely related experience with children 0‑8 years (Level II).
  • Five (5) years teaching experience in a center‑based child care setting or five (5) years closely related experience with children 0‑8 years (Level III).
Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Texas Child Care Minimum Standards and developmentally appropriate teaching and care‑giving practices for children 18 months through 4 years.
  • Use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment, including data entry, receptionist duties, customer service, word processing and general clerical duties.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with staff, parents, and DMC students and faculty, and to model appropriate language, vocabulary, and writing for children.

Job Duties
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities and routines as required by governing entities, in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices; may work without direct supervision for all or portions of a day.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe, healthy, and attractive learning environment both inside and outside; assist with writing and implementing daily activity plans to develop safe and healthy habits, physical skills, self‑esteem, creative expression, social skills, cognitive skills, and communication skills of the children assigned to the group, and assist with sharing information with parents.
  • Assist with completing center forms, including developmental portfolios, daily meal count, attendance records, health checks, and safety checklists.
  • Maintain confidentiality of children and family information.
  • Stop unsafe activities and report suspected child abuse and neglect as required by law.
  • Model for CDEC students appropriate teaching and care‑giving practices.
  • Participate in staff development activities and communicate with parents.
