Job Description
Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Setup Machinist to join our production team. This role involves setting up and operating CNC lathes to machine complex production parts, ensuring high‑quality output while maintaining efficiency and safety. The machinist will work with detailed blueprints, layouts, and authorizing data to complete setups and production runs where parts are challenging to hold and require precision.

Key Responsibilities
Setup & Programming
  • Review planning and programming formats to determine operational sequences and methods.
  • Set up single‑spindle, multi‑tool NC / CNC lathes using authorizing data, adapting standard tooling for difficult‑to‑chuck parts.
  • Install and align machine attachments, set feeds / speeds, and load control mediums.
  • Perform dry runs, trial runs, and make fine adjustments to ensure proper tool approaches for three‑axis machining.
Operation
  • Operate CNC lathes to machine production parts with close attention to tolerances.
  • Monitor performance, adjust and replace cutting tools as needed during runs.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure conformity to specifications and report or correct deviations.
Collaboration & Guidance
  • Work closely with Master Craftsmen and senior machinists to gain exposure to higher‑level setups.
  • Follow established procedures while progressing toward full‑capacity machine operation.
Maintenance
  • Conduct routine checks and preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company standards.
Qualifications Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related CNC lathe machining / setup experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and instructions.
  • Knowledge of machining operations, cutting tools, feeds, and speeds.
  • Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, percentages) for measurements and calculations.
  • Ability to use common hand tools, precision instruments, and measuring equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge with manufacturing software is preferred.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to loud noise, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and occasional contact with chemicals.
  • Work may involve high or elevated places, as well as extreme non‑weather heat.
  • Safety procedures and PPE compliance are required at all times.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and handling tools or parts.
  • Ability to lift / move up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
