Description: CNC Lathe Setup Operator
Job Purpose: Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintains quality and safety standards; keeps records; and maintains equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities- Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Set up lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; set tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements and prove part programs.
- Train and educate other CNC machinists.
- Install and adjust three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample work pieces; adhere to international standards.
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; take measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools; follow quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance, following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
- Ensure continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs; complete production and quality logs.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
