Building Permit Technician I/II Flex in the City of Corona’s Planning and Development Department.
You will support the city’s development by ensuring building permits are processed efficiently and by providing exceptional customer service to residents, contractors, and developers. You’ll work with planning and permitting processes, interpret construction documents, and apply various local, state, and federal regulations. Whether beginning as Level I or advancing to Level II, you’ll play a key part in shaping Corona’s built environment.
ClassificationLevels
Building Permit Technician I: Entry‑level classification under close supervision. Perform routine administrative and technical building permit and plan review support work. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and complex.
Building Permit Technician II: Fully qualified, independent worker who performs the full range of duties, exercises judgment, and requires only occasional guidance.
Education & Experience- Education:
Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. - Experience:
Level I – One (1) year of administrative or technical experience involving high public contact and customer service. Level II – Two (2) years of increasingly responsible administrative or technical experience interpreting building codes and reviewing construction plans involving high public contact and customer service.
- Level I:
None. - Level II:
Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician, Plans Examiner, or equivalent certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 5:00 PM. The selection process includes review of qualifications, oral interview, and a reference/background check, livescan, and pre‑employment medical exam including drug/alcohol screening.
Employment StatusThis position is FLSA Non‑Exempt and eligible for overtime compensation.
