Cost Accountant, Financial Analyst
Position Summary
The Cost Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost analysis in a vertically integrated manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining BOM accuracy, monitoring production variances, supporting new product costing, and ensuring management has clear visibility into margins, cost drivers, and operational performance.
As Developlus continues to grow rapidly and increase innovation velocity, this role will help ensure that cost data keeps pace with formulation changes, packaging updates, vendor pricing changes, tariffs, and production scale.
This position is ideal for a manufacturing-focused accountant who wants to be close to operations and play a meaningful role in improving cost discipline and profitability.
Key Responsibilities 1. Product Costing & BOM Support- Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, components, WIP, and finished goods.
- Support BOM and routing accuracy in Sage X3 in partnership with Operations, R&D, and Planning.
- Assist with cost rollups for new products, reformulations, and packaging changes.
- Validate vendor cost changes and ensure timely updates to standards.
- Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances and investigate root causes.
- Work with Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to understand yield, scrap, and efficiency drivers.
- Prepare monthly variance reports and explain key drivers to Finance and Operations leadership.
- Track and report scrap, rework, and obsolescence trends.
- Support month-end close for inventory and WIP.
- Reconcile production orders, inventory balances, and manufacturing transactions.
- Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory audits.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and expired inventory and support reserve analysis.
- Support costing for new product introductions (NPD).
- Model cost impact of formulation changes, packaging changes, and vendor switches.
- Support pricing, margin analysis, and business case development for new items.
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Quality to improve cost visibility and discipline.
- Support FP&A and leadership with margin analysis and cost-to-serve reporting.
- Assist with audit support, documentation, and controls related to inventory and COGS.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2–5 years of cost or manufacturing accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, BOMs, WIP, and inventory accounting.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment (CPG, cosmetics, chemical, food, or similar preferred).
- Experience with ERP systems (Sage X3 preferred, but not required).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with Operations and Supply Chain teams.
- Experience in CPG, cosmetics, personal care, or chemical manufacturing.
- Exposure to variance analysis, inventory controls, and cost modeling.
- Interest in growing into a Senior Cost Accountant role over time.
