Position Details Position Summary

The Principal Engineer supports the design effort of Fluid Controls and Actuation Products. This position requires a deep understanding of engineering principles to provide innovative technical solutions for New Product Development, and will require ongoing technical leadership, mentoring and guidance for all new and existing fluid control and actuation products.

Principal Activities
  • Leads technical proposals by providing engineering deliverables such as:
    Technical Volumes, Compliance Matrices, Risk Registers and Work Breakdown Structures for a given proposal.
  • Responsible for providing initial technical feasibility for all new fluid controls and actuation proposals.
  • Communicates effectively with all layers of the organization and external customers.
  • Provides training and training material for engineering team.
  • Mentor's others and supports growth of the engineering team to drive innovation and excellence within the department.
  • Guides engineering team through formal technical reviews with suppliers, customers and other functions within the organization.
  • Reviews and approves technical drawings and documentation through the Change Control Board.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to Engineering and Production.
  • Responsible for designing new and innovative solutions for complex fluid controls and actuations proposals utilizing extensive engineering knowledge and experience.
  • Efficiently designs new products using multidomain simulation software.
  • Continuously improves technical know-how by reviewing technical publications, attending workshops, and participating in technical trainings.
  • Provides expert level technical design and analysis assistance to design teams.
  • Supports company-wide innovation with the development of new technologies, R&D projects and technology roadmaps.
Candidate Requirements Experience and capability
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Experience in non-recurring estimation.
  • Experience in program management fundamentals including schedule, cost and quality.
  • Highly Proficient with Solid Works (3D Modeling/Assembly & 2D Drawing), MathCAD, Simulink or similar engineering software tools.
  • Experience in the design and development of Hydraulic and/or pneumatic products.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, VAVE, DFM and requirements management.
  • Hydraulic/pneumatic component/system sizing, design and performance analysis experience required.
  • Basic stress and flow analysis (classical and/or advanced tools).
  • Experience with testing and development of Hydraulic/Pneumatic test set-ups, test fixtures, test equipment, DAQ, instrumentation, and basic controls.
  • Familiarity with Design Verification and Validation in accordance with MIL-STD-810 & RTCA-DO-160.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials (metals, plastics, elastomers), manufacturing processes & post processing.
  • Knowledge of basic electronics and Lab View or equivalent control software.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting hydraulic/pneumatic components or systems.
  • Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic component and system architecture a plus.
  • Experience with sizing, design, and analysis of solenoid and/or BLDC motor a plus.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, and 10(+) years of relevant experience.
