The City of Corona is looking for a dedicated, hands-on Lead Water Operator to join the Utilities Department. What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee and guide daily operations of water distribution systems with precision and pride.

  • Lead a skilled team of water operators, mentoring and training the next generation of water professionals.

  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Operate and maintain pumps, valves, meters, and other critical infrastructure.

  • Respond to emergencies with calm expertise and a commitment to service.

What We’re Looking For:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college level coursework in water science or a related field.
Experience:

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience working in water distribution, potable water production, water treatment, storage, transmission, or a related field.


Licenses & Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a valid Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Grade T3 Water Treatment Operator Certificate.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid Grade D4 Water Distribution Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid Grade T4 Water Treatment Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

The Application Process

Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with a first review onMonday, July 28, 2025, at 5:00PM. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as the recruitment may close at any time without notice after the first review period.

Candidates who successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invitedto in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for the week of August 4, 2025.

Top scoring candidates from the oral interviews will then be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan fingerprinting and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).
