Position Summary

The Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and plumbing systems within the WWTP including remote pumping station facilities. This position ensures the continuous and safe operation of equipment, meeting regulatory standards and providing safe wastewater treatment to the municipality to protect health and the environment.

The Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – WWTP will also perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance tasks to support plant operations and reduce downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, boilers, prime movers, chemical systems and filtration systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in a timely manner to ensure minimal disruption to the wastewater treatment processes.
  • Plan and perform preventive maintenance tasks to reduce equipment failure, including lubricating parts, replacing components, and conducting tests to ensure system performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor and operate treatment plant systems, including chemical dosing and filtration, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and operational standards.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations and repairs as needed, ensuring that downtime is minimized, and operations are restored quickly.
  • Assist in the calibration and adjustment of control systems and equipment to maintain optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with other plant personnel to perform major repairs, tank inspections, equipment upgrades, and system overhauls.
  • Maintain and repair plumbing and mechanical systems to ensure the smooth operation of the plant.
  • Ensure all safety protocols and operational procedures are followed in accordance with municipal guidelines and regulatory requirements.

    Education &

    Certifications:

  • Certified Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) with a valid 433A Certificate of Qualification and Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
  • Class 1 Wastewater Treatment Operator license for Wastewater Treatment Plant or willingness and ability to obtain.
  • Industrial Maintenance Technician – Mechanical TSSA license or willingness and ability to obtain.
  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance work, preferably in a wastewater treatment plant, water purification plant, or similar industrial environment.
  • Experience with the maintenance and repair of pumps, valves, motors, filtration systems, boilers, prime movers, and other related equipment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical Expertise:
    Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and plumbing systems, and experience maintaining or repairing these systems in a municipal or industrial setting.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot operational issues in complex systems quickly and effectively.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations specific to municipal wastewater treatment systems.
