Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Technician to join our small, friendly and busy department at West Cornwall Hospital, part of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. You will be working on the acute wards, assisting with the assessment and treatment of patients with a broad range of medical conditions.
Main Duties of the Job- Assist in the development of Occupational Therapy Services by supporting Occupational Therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients and the day-to‑day running of the therapy environment.
- Accept patients referred by an Occupational Therapist and carry a caseload of own patients, treating them according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression and making alterations (within protocols and scope of practice) to treatment programmes as required.
- Work unsupervised regularly, reporting back patient progress and informing the physiotherapist of any problems.
- For a defined and delegated group of patients, undertake the assessment of patients, using investigative and analytical skills, applying clinical reasoning and utilising a range of assessment and treatment skills and options to formulate treatment programmes.

To be an employee of the NHS you need to successfully complete the following:

- Evidence of recent study, e.g. Anatomy and Physiology ITEC, Access to Occupational/Physiotherapy Therapy course, etc.
- Comprehensive experience of working in an acute healthcare setting.
- Experience of working with elderly or injured/disabled people.
- Experience of working as a Therapy or Nursing Assistant/rehab technician.
- Experience of managing a separate caseload.
- Experience as a Technical Instructor/Rehab Technician II working in health or a similar post; experience of working in the NHS.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with patients with impaired communication abilities.
