Description:
This is a new progressive care unit that will open soon.
The unit will initially open at 50% capacity and will grow from there.
The unit has 33 beds.
No trauma designation is present.
This is not a teaching hospital or a chest pain center.
It is not currently stroke accredited.
Travelers must have a permanent address more than 50 miles outside the home unit.
The unit consists of 12 beds.
Experience in a PCU is required.
First-time travelers will only be accepted if they have more than 5 years of PCU experience.
Patient types include adults with medical diagnoses.
Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, and patients receiving dialysis.
The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4.
General nursing skills required include IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, and managing drains.
Comfort with central lines, NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, and cardiac rhythm interpretation is necessary.
Phlebotomy is not available, so performing lab draws is a requirement.
Nurses must be comfortable titrating cardiac drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, and insulin with Endotool.
Experience with vented patients is preferred but not required; willingness to learn is essential.
Support in the department includes CNAs and a charge nurse.
No phlebotomy assistance is provided.
There is RT available 24/7 and a hospitalist is on call sthesia services are available 24/7 to assist with intubations.
Nurses must monitor their own patients, as there is no tele tech available.
Floating may occur within the scope of practice and lower acuity units.
Travelers may float to other facilities as needed.
If floated mid-shift, travelers will be compensated for travel time.
Weekend shifts are required, with 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule, potentially more if needed.
Holiday expectations include working 75% of holidays in contract.

The schedule is on a 6-week basis, with self-scheduling available with manager approval.
Scrub color is navy blue.
