Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position requiring 2 years of critical care experience, working 12-hour night shifts with regional float requirements across multiple facilities.
Responsibilities- 4-bed ICU unit within a 33-bed, non-trauma, non-teaching hospital in Cornelius, NC
- Patient population includes a wide range of critical diagnoses including sepsis, ARDS, GI bleeds, DKA, cardiac arrest, withdrawal, and renal failure (no cardiac surgical cases)
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2; CNA support available at approximately 1:10
- Critical care skills required include management of vasoactive and sedation drips, invasive lines (arterial and central venous), ventilator management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, and blood product administration
- EMR:
Epic (experience required) - Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, and virtual rounding cart
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required within the regional network (Region 1: Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities) — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
- Department support includes a 24/7 charge nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist coverage (9a–11a with VCC coverage for remaining hours), and an IV/VAT team; there is no HUC or unit receptionist
- CNAs assist with turning, feeding, ADLs, blood sugars, lab draws, and mobility; RNs are primarily responsible for phlebotomy
- Orientation includes facility-level onboarding (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- RTO: up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
- Required scrub color: navy
- Free parking available on site
- First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered with strong ICU experience
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in general ICU skillset: critical care drips (insulin, vasopressors, sedation), invasive line management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator management, chest tubes, blood products, and wound care
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the home unit — local candidates are not accepted
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
