Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 4-bed ICU position in Cornelius, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Responsibilities- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- 4-bed ICU unit within a 33-bed facility with no trauma designation
- Patient population includes Sepsis, ARDS, GI Bleeds, DKA, Cardiac Arrest, Withdrawal, Renal Failure, and other diagnoses except Cardiac Surgical cases
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2; CNA support available at approximately 1:10
- Procedures and skills include management of critical care drips (insulin, vasopressors, sedation), invasive lines (ART/CVP), ventilator management, chest tubes, cardiac rhythm interpretation, blood products, and wound care
- EMR:
Epic - Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, and virtual rounding cart
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required across all facilities within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division) per scope of practice — candidates who are not agreeable to this requirement should not apply
- Department support includes CNAs, a 24/7 charge nurse, 24/7 RT, 24/7 Hospitalist, Intensivist coverage (9a–11a with VCC coverage for remaining hours), and an IV/VAT Team; no HUC or receptionist on the unit
- RNs are responsible for phlebotomy, with limited hospital-wide phlebotomy support available on request
- Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental training
- Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any time off that affects contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Required scrub color:

- First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered with strong ICU experience
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in general ICU skillset including critical care drips, invasive line management, ventilator management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and chest tubes
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
