- Are you a passionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ready to empower students and schools?
- Education:
A bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a closely related field is required.
- A valid Texas Educator Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) is required.
- Familiarity with special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process are essential. Language Proficiency:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.

- CPR certification is preferred. Your Role:
As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing , you will play a crucial role in empowering students who are deaf or hard of hearing to achieve academic success, foster independence, and gain equitable access to their educational environment.
- Develop Individualized Plans:
Collaborate with IEP teams to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address the specific communication and learning needs of students with hearing impairments. - Provide Specialized Instruction:
Deliver targeted instruction in areas such as language development, auditory skills, and social-emotional learning, utilizing strategies that align with each student’s unique needs. - Monitor Student Progress:
Collect and analyze data to track students’ academic and developmental progress, adjusting instructional approaches as needed to meet IEP goals. - Collaborate with Teams:
Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and language pathologists, audiologists, and families to ensure a cohesive support system for students across all educational settings. - Promote Accessibility:
Advocate for and implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies, such as FM systems, captioning, and visual aids, to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities. - Support Transition Goals:
Prepare students for life beyond school by teaching skills such as self-advocacy, effective communication, and the use of adaptive technologies for post-secondary education, vocational settings, and independent living. - Foster Independence:
Develop strategies to enhance students’ independence and self-confidence in school, home, and community settings, including teaching self-advocacy and problem-solving skills. - Promote Safety:
Ensure students’ safety by addressing accessibility needs and teaching essential skills for navigating their environments effectively. - Your expertise will help students overcome barriers, fostering growth and success in their educational and personal journeys.
