OverviewWalgreens is transforming its pharmacy operations from a transaction‑based environment to a patient‑centric model. As a Pharmacy Technician or Apprentice, you will work directly with customers, build relationships, and use the latest technology to advance your career.
Responsibilities- Assist the pharmacist, under supervision, in all pharmacy duties while adhering to state, federal, and company regulations.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and ensure accurate data entry.
- Model a distinctive customer experience, greeting and assisting customers, resolving issues, and promoting Walgreens service traits.
- Support pharmacy operations, including counting, pouring, verifying medications, scheduling workflow, and reporting prescription errors immediately.
- Operate pharmacy cash registers, handle cash, and manage related sales transactions.
- Assist with phone calls, claims processing, and manual edits for third‑party prescription services.
- Maintain inventory, order and unpack pharmaceuticals, handle overage and shortage claims, and ensure proper storage.
- Assist with clinical services, such as collecting and labeling samples, and coordinate with Walgreens clinics and external providers.
- Support the pharmacy manager and staff in building relationships with health professionals and community partners.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the pharmacy department.
- Complete special assignments and additional tasks as required.
- Engage patients with greeting, eye contact, and courtesy to provide a pleasant experience.
- Share best practices with teammates to promote consistent service excellence.
- Develop and nurture relationships with valuable customers.
- Assist in pharmacy practice per company policy and the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Enter patient and drug information, verify prescriptions, manage dispensing and scheduling, and adhere to the Quality Improvement Program.
- Comply with Good Faith Dispensing policies during all dispensing activities.
- Handle cash register responsibilities, OTC aisle assistance, and telephone communications.
- Process and correct manual claims efficiently.
- Support inventory management and protect company assets.
- Assist in clinical services and patient outreach to local communities.
- Ensure pharmacy supplies are stocked, clean, and orderly.
- Maintain respectful coworker relationships and complete all company policies.
- Complete special assignments and other assigned tasks.
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the training program or state requirements; certification is required for promotion to senior technician.
- Attend manager‑requested training and obtain continuing education credits to stay current with healthcare developments.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (exceptions only in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Six months’ experience in a retail environment.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Strong math skills for accurate prescription dispensing.
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of store inventory control.
- PTCB certification.
