Under the leadership of the ED Director– the ED Clinical Coordinator is an active member of the department that collects data, provides comfort measures, and care to patients. They will collaborate with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to provide optimal patient care through current standards of practice. The ED Clinical Coordinator will assist in developing and implementing unit specific policy and procedures to improve and maintain high levels of care in the emergency care setting.
The Clinical Coordinator will assist the staff in training and education of new staff members in current policy and procedures and provide support to peers in caring for patients.
Education:
Requires an Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and CEN is preferred.
Experience:
Requires five years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licensure, Registrations &
Certifications:
Requires a current state license as a Registered Nurse and is listed in good standing with the state’s Department of Professional Credentialing. Requires current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC).
- Direct or assist others in patient care interventions/treatment/evaluation utilizing approved treatment guidelines.
- Monitor or evaluate medical/psychiatric conditions of patients in collaboration with other health care professionals.
- Direct and assist patient flow to maintain efficiency in the ED.
- Coordinate or conduct educational programs or in-service training sessions.
- Identify training needs or conduct training sessions for clinical staff.
- Assist in development and implementation of goals for new staff orientation.
- Ensures that departmental quality, satisfaction and regulatory compliance standards are consistently met or exceeded.
- Maintain departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and infection control standards.
- Works to continually improve the quality and timeliness of the ED Department care and services.
- Participate in clinical projects such as reviewing protocols, reviewing patient records, monitoring compliance, and meeting with regulatory authorities.
- Provides staff the opportunities to participate in staff development, educational program and regularly schedules unit specific in-service programs. Provides new employees with an orientation specific to the department, explaining the department’s mission, policies, procedures and goals.
- Assists with staffing and scheduling.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Proficient in Kronos, Health streams, Policy Stat, Excel, Meditech EDM, eQM and other electronic programs utilized by the ED.
- Knowledgeable in charge reconciliation and charge master for the ED.
- Fills the role as the department leader in the absence of the ED Nurse Director.
