What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam’s Victim Services Unit located in the RCMP building is seeking a Victim Services Assistant Coordinator to join their team. Reporting to the Victim Services Unit Coordinator, this position will carry out social services work by providing assistance to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. Program delivery for this position will also include facilitating Emergency Support Services Level 1 (ESS) evacuee assistance for the RCMP.

This position will be responsible for staff scheduling and will monitor work performance for compliance with established standards. Considerable independent judgment and action are exercised within established guidelines in functioning effectively under conditions of emergency situations and conflict. This position will involve liaising with a variety of community service agencies, government bodies and police members on matters related to victims of crime.

The successful candidate must be able to prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and correspondence related to the work.

Desired Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of program objectives, policies and procedures and of the services provided to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma.
  • Considerable knowledge of crisis intervention and trauma‑informed practices related to the work performed.
  • Sound knowledge of services available through community agencies and organizations.
  • Sound knowledge of court and police procedures as they relate to the work performed.
  • Ability to assist a superior in supervising unit operations, coordinating work activities, and screening, interviewing, selecting and training.
  • Ability to monitor the work of others, identify deficiencies, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to provide instruction, guidance and assistance to staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to prepare a variety of reports, presentations and correspondence related to the work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to provide direct crisis intervention and follow‑up services to victims of crime, trauma and family problems.
Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant will have obtained a diploma in the social sciences field along with relevant courses in crisis intervention, trauma‑informed practices, conflict resolution and victim support plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • A valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous supervisory skills, knowledge of crisis intervention practices and techniques
  • Strong relationship‑building skills
  • Must be able to obtain RCMP Enhanced Security clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science or Counselling.
  • Current RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $38.87 – $45.75 (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
