On-Call Casual Cook

Coquitlam School District invites applications for on‑call casual cooks. As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40‑minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 34,000 students with approximately 4,400 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff.

Casual cooks report to the Principal/designate and provide support to the supervising cook/culinary assistant or chef instructor.

• Baking
• Preparing and serving hot and cold meals
• Cleaning kitchen, cafeteria and dishes
• Operating cash register, kitchen equipment and dishwasher
• Monitoring and assisting in restocking and maintaining supply levels
• Balancing, completing and reporting cash and sales
• Maintaining a positive rapport with students, staff and other facility users
• Giving direction to students who are assisting/working in the cafeteria

Successful applicant must have Grade 10 plus Food Safe Level 1, knowledge of food inventory and ordering and have worked in the hospitality industry for a minimum of two years or have completed cooking courses in a recognized institution.

For on‑call cook positions, you must be available between the hours of 6:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday, while school is in session.

$27.01 per hour, plus 16 % in lieu of benefits. We are accepting applications on an ongoing basis.

Successful candidates are subject to two criminal record checks to the employer’s satisfaction prior to confirmation of hiring.
