Position: Planner 2 – Community Planning

Overview

Planner 2 – Community Planning

Temporary Full Time (18 months)

Responsibilities
  • Involved in city-building through the development of long-range planning policies, such as the Official Community Plan and neighbourhood plans.
  • Develop and implement public consultation processes that inform planning policies.
  • In conjunction with more senior level staff, develop and present planning process results and recommended policies to Council and their Committees.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of urban planning, policies, rules, regulations, bylaws, objectives and legislation governing Planning and Development Department operations.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders, respond to a range of community issues, and establish effective working relationships with other employees, consultants and the general public.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    3 to 5 years of progressively responsible planning experience; graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning or related field; membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of B.C.; equivalent combinations of education, training and experience may be considered; driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Long-range urban planning project management
  • Preparation of OCPs, area and neighbourhood plans
  • Urban design policy and practice
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and effectively present complex technical data to internal and external stakeholders
  • Public engagement and stakeholder consultation, including working with neighbourhood groups and local First Nations
  • Advanced research, analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to interpret emerging issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong public presentation skills
What We Offer

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $56.34 - $66.72 per hour (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
