Provide students with appropriate learning activities and hands‑on experiences in the Dental Science/Health Science program to help them develop the knowledge, technical skills, and professional behaviors necessary for postsecondary education and entry into dental and allied health careers. Enable students to develop competencies required for success in the healthcare workforce.
QUALIFICATIONS Education/CertificationBachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or high school diploma/GED and equivalent wage‑earning experience as required by certification
Valid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training for subject and level assigned, or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
Demonstrated competency in the career and technical education subject area assigned
Professional experience in one or more of the following:- Licensed Dental Hygienist
- Dental Assistant
- Dental Instructor
- Dental professional with documented industry experience aligned to Health Science/Dental pathways
Knowledge of dental science, infection control, dental terminology, chairside procedures, and healthcare ethics
Knowledge of Health Science curriculum and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
Ability to provide hands‑on instruction in a lab‑based environment
Ability to supervise and manage students in clinical or simulated clinical settings
Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Willingness to actively participate in and support the Health Science Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO)
ExperienceStudent teaching, approved internship, or 3 years of wage‑earning experience in the area of certification
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Instructional StrategiesDevelop and implement lesson plans aligned to district curriculum and Health Science/Dental TEKS
Provide written evidence of preparation as required
Use instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and technology aligned to industry standards
Deliver instruction emphasizing safety, infection control, professionalism, and ethical practices
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
Collaborate with special education staff to implement IEP accommodations
Supervise student lab activities and clinical simulations
Student Growth and DevelopmentConduct ongoing assessments using formal and informal measures
Promote student progress toward completion of a Health Science/Dental Program of Study
Prepare students for postsecondary education, workforce readiness, and industry credentials
Support Industry‑Based Certification (IBC) attainment
Serve as a positive professional role model
Classroom Management and OrganizationCreate classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
CommunicationEstablish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and DevelopmentParticipate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
CTE teachers are expected to actively participate in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) when aligned with their Program of Study and serve as the CTSO advisor or co‑advisor.
Work collaboratively with campus and district leaders to promote program growth and long‑term sustainability.
