This position responds to the customers’ needs for service of equipment through maintenance, diagnosis and repair of refrigeration, heating & air-conditioning systems commonly installed in supermarkets, convenient stores and cold storage facilities. Assist Service Technicians perform prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
Responsibilities- Perform prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
- Partner with other technicians for start-up of new refrigeration equipment.
- Understand how workplace efficiencies relate to profitability; resolve customer warranty issues rapidly and accurately.
- Mentor other technicians and teach classes on HVAC/R processes, diagnostics, parts, etc.
- Identify sales opportunities and assist service management with material and labor estimates to bid service and repair jobs.
- Complete necessary documents (work tickets and timesheets) and electronic communication accurately and timely.
- Manage truck inventory; order, receive, bill out and maintain parts with minimal waste; maintain vehicle in company guidelines; keep vehicle clean and perform required maintenance on time.
- Demonstrate knowledge of advanced electrical and mechanical repairs, EMS programming, wiring diagrams, and complex schematics to meet customer needs.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment on more complex service calls.
- Understand compressor operating parameters, oil differential pressures and oil level controls; knowledge of low/high pressure oil systems, split condensing/low ambient controls, EMS controls, CO2 refrigeration, and related startup/testing concepts.
- Perform system refrigerant and oil conversions.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Formal Education
- Required Level: High School Diploma/GED
- Preferred level: HVAC-R Technical School Degree
Experience
- External Candidates: 10 years in the field or 7 years with Certification from a Technical School
- Internal Candidates: 7 years of experience with completion of OJT & Skills Assessment
Additional Information
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record
- Ability to walk distances, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly
- Excellent verbal and written communication; detail-oriented and motivated
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and hand tools
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required
- Working knowledge of refrigeration/HVAC is preferred
- Strong leadership and business acumen
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- Excellent decision-making and documentation skills
- Ability to teach the listed items effectively
