Risk Manager/Analyst, Underwriter
Overview
Underwriter I. This position performs standard duties in reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating insurance risks on new and enforce policies. In addition, this position renders subjective decisions regarding acceptability of risks in accordance with underwriting policies, practices, and Exchange guidelines. The position accepts, modifies, or rejects the risk/coverages as appropriate, with concurrence of the Manager or Manager's designee.
Job DutiesAnalyze applications or documentation and develop supplemental information, which may be obtained from previous insurance carriers, direct contact with insureds and/or from photographs;
Determine acceptability and rate level adequacy by enforcing rating plan. Determine modifications or rejection of risk with concurrence of Management.Modify risk as to deem it acceptable or determine restrictive action on enforce and renewal policies.
Review files when errors are detected and coordinate correction through appropriate levels
Inform insureds of rejections, modifications or restrictive actions on policies after Management has reviewed. Respond to inquiries from insureds regarding those restrictions
Communicate underwriting philosophy and decisions to Sales Agents while continuing to build a good rapport and relationship between Sales and Underwriting
Determine acceptability of continued coverage when amendments or endorsements substantially change initial risk exposure
Recommend restrictive action or termination of policies with Management approval, prior to expiration
Position is designed as an entry level that requires decisions regarding cancellation of policy to be reviewed with Underwriting Management. This position requires decision making capabilities by weighing all pertinent facts associated with an insurance risk. The decisions are not routine and often require subjective review, however decision to cancel or non-renew must be reviewed with Management for this Underwriter level.
Bachelors Equivalent combination of education and experience
Insurance, Risk Management, Business, Public Administration, or related discipline. Preferred
Problem solving, decision making and analytical skills. (Medium proficiency)
MS Office applications (Medium proficiency)
Communication skills both written and verbal (Medium proficiency)
Organizational and time management skills required. (Medium proficiency)
Interpersonal skills in working in a group environment (Medium proficiency)
