Job Purpose and Summary

At CVS Health, we transform health care for our customers and strive to be a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system and their personal health care by improving access, lowering costs and being a trusted partner for every meaningful moment of health. In our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) support pharmacy teams to deliver our brand promise with heart.

Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers and help deliver an exceptional experience. They supervise pharmacy operations to ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and provide caring service that meets patient expectations. Technicians work as part of the pharmacy team by applying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication, while demonstrating genuine care and contributing to a safe, inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.

In role, technicians complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until requirements are met, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: serve patients at pick-up, drive-thru and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services as appropriate; and resolve or escalate patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership, including putting away medication deliveries and performing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
  • Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; support a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic; voluntarily travel to stores in the market to cover shifts as needed.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles. Follow CVS policies to ensure patient safety, regulatory compliance for controlled substances, and patient privacy and security.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where allowed by law and supported by required training and certification.

Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations, including:

  • Completing additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to support preparing and administering vaccines.
  • Educating patients about vaccines and directing vaccine questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements.
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information and tracking applicable data.
  • Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including but not limited to age, education, and licensure/certification.
  • If the state board does not address a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old.
  • If the state board does not address a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
  • State-level licensure and national certification…
