Department Overview

The primary function of the Office of Global Health (OGH) is coordination of a variety of educational activities for health professional, graduate, and capstone students. It also serves as a hub to enhance collaboration and communication among related global health programs in the SMPH, such as departmental-level global health activities and postgraduate global health training of MD clinical residents and fellows.

The OGH also serves as an important link for the SMPH to the UW-Madison Global Health Institute and its array of global health programming and opportunities. Learn more about the OGH here: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)./

Schedule

When you work with the OGH, you can create your own work schedule each semester to ensure you can balance your schooling priorities with work. In most cases, we ask that you work between regular office hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday‑Friday, though there is flexibility based on faculty/staff needs and student schedules. The position will require weekly check‑ins (in‑person or virtual) and occasional evening activities, otherwise many of the required duties can be done remotely.

Qualifications
  • Experience and competence using Canvas, UW Box, Webex/Zoom/Teams, Microsoft Office, Kaltura and Google suite of tools
  • Ability to rapidly learn other technology platforms in support of educational programs if needed
  • Maturity and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to organize time and set priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work productively both collaboratively and independently
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new tasks

Position Summary/Job Duties
  • Assist global health course faculty with:
    • Online learning platform technology
    • Scheduling guest lecturers, AV and/or technology platforms, communications with student groups
  • Assist OGH faculty and staff with:
    • Updating the OGH website as needed
    • Organizing student e‑portfolios and other record‑keeping tasks
    • Event planning/implementation and coordination of OGH educational outreach activities including Global Health Symposium, various global health information sessions
    • Certificate completion celebration
    • Occasional international visitor coordination
    • General office tasks including making copies, scanning, shredding, etc.
  • Participate in job‑appropriate trainings and self‑study to acquire new or to improve skills (e.g. Wisc Web training, photo/video editing, using Kaltura, editing within Canvas)
