Department Overview:
The Center for Community & Nonprofit Studies (the CommNS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a hub for faculty, students, and community partners to collaborate on research, practice, and learning, and evaluation that examines the well-being of communities and the roles and work of civil society, the nonprofit sector, and other mission-based and community-led efforts. The CommNS Co-Create team provides applied research and evaluation services and technical assistance for mission-driven partners that inform and advance their goals.

Minimum: 10 Maximum: 20

Student can determine hours during regular working week, 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday, with expectation of attendance in scheduled meetings. Occasional travel may be needed, to include earlier mornings and later evenings.

Minimum: $16.00 Maximum: $21.00

• Student enrolled at UW-Madison, at undergraduate or graduate levels
• Professional interest in applied research and evaluation, community-based education, health promotion, agriculture, food systems, community development, or other related topics
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability

• Interest and/or previous experience with data entry, survey administration and data analysis
• Self-motivated and self-directed
• Ability to work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Enthusiasm and flexibility
• Lived experience and/or knowledge of Native communities

The project evaluation student hourly will work closely with the Co-Create and Division of Extension Evaluators and in collaboration with other project partners to support grant evaluation activities. Specific duties will include:

• Assist with project evaluation activities, including literature reviews and development of data collection tools and data collection (e.g., surveys and interviews with community members and partners)
• Assist with collecting community data related to nutrition, physical activity, agriculture and food systems, food sovereignty, and/or professional development on site in the Menominee Nation, Bad River Band, the Ho Chunk Nation, and other partner sites
• Assist with tracking and documenting progress on project activities and outcomes
• Assist with data management and analysis
• Assist with project communication activities which could include preparing newsletters and posting communication messages on blogs and/or social media
• Other duties as assigned
