Role Overview

The Director of Investments will serve as a senior leader responsible for investment oversight, strategic direction, and investment communication as the firm continues to scale. This role is designed for an investment professional who thrives in a leadership, client-facing environment and is energized by helping build a firm over time.

The Director of Investments will work within Cravens & Company’s established investment philosophy, co-lead the Investment Committee, mentor the internal team, and support client relationships. This role emphasizes judgment, communication, and collaboration rather than heavy research production or daily trading execution. A clear pathway to Chief Investment Officer exists as the firm scales and milestones are achieved.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight of portfolio construction, asset allocation, and investment implementation.
  • Co-lead the Investment Committee, guiding discussion and decision-making with clarity and discipline.
  • Ensure consistent application of the firm’s investment philosophy across client portfolios.
  • Oversee effective use of investment platforms, including our in-house, Quality Focus Strategy (with over 10 years of audited results), custom indexing, SMAs, and alternative investment solutions.
  • Maintain strong investment governance, documentation, and decision rationale.
Client-Facing Engagement
  • Participate in client meetings to explain investment strategy, positioning, and market context.
  • Translate complex investment topics into clear, practical guidance for clients.
  • Support advisors in high-value client conversations and select business development efforts.
  • Contribute to periodic market commentary and client education initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop internal team members to strengthen investment understanding and confidence.
  • Establish clear workflows that support efficiency, accountability, and consistency.
  • Foster a collaborative, relationship-driven culture across investment, planning, and operations teams.
Strategic Contribution
  • Partner with firm leadership on long-term investment strategy and growth initiatives.
  • Report directly to the firm's owner and collaborate on long-term strategy.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the firm’s investment offering as the client base expands.
  • Support scalable processes that enable growth without unnecessary complexity.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 8–12+ years of experience in investment management or private wealth management
  • Experience with in an RIA, family office, or private advisory firm environment
  • CFA designation strongly preferred (or active pursuit)
  • Demonstrated strength in investment communication and client engagement
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capability
  • Excitement about long-term growth and building alongside a firm
  • Willingness to relocate to Cookeville, Tennessee
  • Base Salary: $165,000–$185,000, commensurate with experience
  • Annual Bonus:
    Target 15–25% based on individual and firm performance
  • Long-Term Incentive:
    Participation in a long-term incentive program aligned with firm growth
