SummaryThe Maintenance Apprentice is an entry-level, multi-craft role designed for individuals seeking to develop technical skills in an industrial manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the apprentice assists journey-level technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing production equipment while typically being enrolled in a related post-secondary or technical program.
Responsibilities- Preventative Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, conveyors, steam systems, and other facility equipment. - Equipment Repair:
Assist in the installation and repair of machines; learn to troubleshoot programmable controllers (PLCs) and A/C and D/C drives. - Technical Interpretation:
Read and apply blueprints, schematics, and operating manuals to perform repairs. - Facility Support:
Assist with plant inspections to identify mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance in plumbing, carpentry, welding, and electrical trades. - Safety & Compliance:
Maintain a safe and clean work environment (5S/Housekeeping); strictly adhere to company safety policies and wear required PPE. - Documentation:
Accurately complete work orders and daily maintenance paperwork via maintenance software systems. - Availability:
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including 2nd or 3rd shifts and weekends as needed. - Skills:
Willingness to learn multi-craft trades (Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics).
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED. - Enrollment:
Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institute or technical school during the apprenticeship period.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle materials. Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching is required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Exposure to moving mechanical parts, high noise levels (hearing protection required), and varying temperatures (non-climate controlled environments). The environment is fast-paced and production-driven. Lifting:
Must be able to perform "Very Heavy Work", occasionally exerting in excess of 100 lbs of force and frequently 50 lbs.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively in English
Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsRequired to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Performance MeasurementsThe performance of the employee will be measured as follows:
- Operating standards - the employee will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards in the areas of quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction and productivity. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the employee.
- Personal growth - while the company will provide the tools to assist the employee to grow professionally the responsibility for moving forward lies with the individual. Each year there will be goals developed and agreed to by the employee and his/her superior.
