Position: Qualified Social Worker (Children and Families Team)

Neway International are seeking a Social Worker (Children) – Social Care Qualified to join our client based with Conwy County Borough Council.

Conway Road, Colwyn Bay, LL29 7AZ

Hours:

37 hours per week

Start Date:

5 January 2026

Duration: 12 weeks (likely to be extended)

Pay Rate: £27.50 per hour PAYE / £36.02 per hour Umbrella

About the Client

Conwy County Borough Council’s Children, Families and Safeguarding service provides high‑quality, child‑centred support to children who are looked after, their families, and connected carers. The service is committed to safeguarding, promoting resilience, and ensuring that children remain at the heart of all planning and decision‑making. Working within the Children Looked After team, you will contribute to delivering safe, effective, and outcome‑focused social work practice across the county.

The Role

As a Social Worker within the Children Looked After team, you will deliver statutory social work services to children under care orders, those looked after by the Local Authority, and young people preparing to leave care. You will work collaboratively with families, carers, and partner agencies to ensure children’s needs are met, their rights are upheld, and their safety is prioritised.

This role requires strong assessment skills, sound safeguarding knowledge, and the ability to manage a varied caseload while maintaining high professional standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct social work support to children and families in line with statutory duties, national guidance, and outcome‑focused practice
  • Build effective relationships with children, families, carers, and partner agencies to identify and meet needs
  • Ensure statutory timescales for assessments, reviews, and planning are met
  • Use collaborative approaches to support meaningful participation in assessments, care planning, and reviews
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with All Wales Child Protection Procedures
  • Undertake safeguarding investigations and complete risk assessments
  • Prepare and present reports and plans for strategy meetings, looked after reviews, and pathway reviews
  • Work with internal teams to support placement stability and ensure coordinated service delivery
  • Maintain accountability for resource allocation in line with legislation and council policies
  • Provide early and effective responses to concerns or complaints
  • Chair meetings where required and quality‑assure associated records
  • Prepare accurate, analytical written reports for a range of purposes
  • Manage a varied caseload, ensuring timely, outcome‑focused casework
  • Use research, theory, and evidence‑based practice to support positive outcomes
  • Maintain accurate, coherent, and timely case records
  • Escalate concerns or complex issues to management promptly
  • Promote anti‑discriminatory and non‑oppressive practice
  • Support duty systems and provide backup as required
  • Transport or accompany children/families to appointments when appropriate
Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Care Wales registration
  • Experience working with children looked after, safeguarding, and statutory social work practice
  • Strong assessment, planning, and risk‑management skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with children, families, and multi‑agency partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and meet statutory deadlines
  • Commitment to child‑centred, strengths‑based, and anti‑oppressive practice
  • Ability to travel for work purposes
