Healogics is the largest provider of advanced wound care services in the United States, treating over 300,000 chronic wound patients annually across more than 600 sites.

Reporting to the Program Director, the Hyperbaric Safety Director administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed, ensuring safe and effective operation of hyperbaric chambers and related systems. The role also involves maintenance, safety program leadership, documentation, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Performs hyperbaric chamber operator duties, including:
    • Preparing, educating, and orienting patients about hyperbaric oxygen therapy, lifting or transferring patients per local policy, and answering questions.
    • Administering the therapy as prescribed, monitoring and controlling equipment performance, and monitoring patient responses to ensure safety and effectiveness.
    • Recording data for daily treatments and wound care clinic visits, maintaining accurate patient records.
    • Operating and maintaining hyperbaric chambers and support systems.
    • Participating in the safety program and conducting safety drills.
  • Responsible for all hyperbaric equipment/supply, ensuring safe operation and maintenance, including:
    • Evaluating equipment and supply to meet safety requirements before use.
    • Restricting or removing hazardous supplies or equipment.
    • Coordinating upgrades, modifications, and repairs with the Program Director and Healogics to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborates with facility management, medical personnel, and senior management to streamline operations and regularly update policies and procedures.
  • Leads the hyperbaric safety program, including:
    • Maintaining a safe environment and using approved decompression procedures.
    • Reviewing safety incidents, collecting data, reporting, and providing in‑service training.
    • Conducting quarterly safety drills and informing personnel of special work conditions.
    • Assisting the Medical Director in reviewing safety events and facilitating learning.
    • Maintaining compliance with NFPA 99 and reviewing policies as needed.
    • Serving on safety or environment of care committees as appropriate.
  • May function as a Documentation Assistant (scribe) if CMA or LPN, per Healogics policy.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience and Credentials
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred:
    Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS).
  • Pre or post hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course (within five years if pre‑hire).
  • Pre or post hire completion of an approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course from accredited societies.
  • Current healthcare professional certification or license applicable in the state of practice, to be maintained throughout employment. This applies to:
    • Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
    • Military:
      Corpsman or Medical Services Specialist
    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic
    • Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
    • Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS)
    • Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN)
    • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA)
    • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT)
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)
    • Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist (CHWS)
    • Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
    • Completion of Hyperbaric Training from US Department of Defense (DOD):
      • US Navy, Army, Coast Guard Diver (1st, 2nd Class or Master)
      • US Air Force Aerospace Physiology Specialist
State Variations
  • Ohio:
    Current Ohio license as RN, LPN/LVN, Respiratory Therapist, or Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) approved by NBDHMT.
  • Pre or post hire completion of Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course approved by NBDHMT, DOD, ACMH or UHMCS.
  • Two or more years’ experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Prior experience in wound or critical care preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
