Job Title: Elementary Learning Specialist
- Social Studies & Elementary Gifted & Talented
Supervisor: Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction
Terms of Employment: 220 days
Job Summary: To provide leadership and support for elementary schools in the implementation of the district's academic programs, including the implementation of curriculum standards and district instructional models, utilization of effective instructional strategies, integration of technology, diagnostic testing, and data analysis
- Work with curriculum coaches, administrators, and teachers in developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive primary and elementary program
- Ensure teachers and principals are familiar with any changes in the standards and curriculum maps
- Coordinate/lead staff development sessions on best classroom practices, teaching methods, classroom management, curriculum standards, content, use of technology, lesson planning, instructional materials/resources, and other areas consistent with district initiatives and instructional models for elementary social studies and elementary gifted and talented
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to design and implement specialized curriculum and enrichment activities for elementary gifted and talented
- Progress monitor implementation of gifted and talented curriculum and growth of elementary GT students
- Observe teachers and provide feedback in support of district initiatives and instructional models
- Provide assistance to all professional personnel regarding curriculum and instructional programs in designated specialty area
- Assist school curriculum coaches in employing effective coaching strategies and best classroom practices
- Assist curriculum coaches and teachers with improving techniques for instruction and improving overall student achievement
- Conduct regular meetings with teacher leaders in order to coordinate curriculum alignment and instruction with assessment
- Coordinate special events that impact primary and elementary schools
- Participate in district- and state-level work sessions/meetings that focus on curriculum and instruction and assessment
- Collaborate with school- and district-level personnel in curriculum planning and development
- Provide instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instructional process
- Disseminate information and materials relating to the academic program
- Collaborate with other learning specialists to provide an integrated program
- Assist with the overall evaluation of district initiatives and programs and develops strategies for improvement
- Participate in ongoing professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes to enhance job performance
- Carry out other tasks and responsibilities as assigned
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director for Curriculum and Instruction.
Job SpecificationsPerformance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge,Skills And Abilities
Required)
- Valid South Carolina certification in elementary education and/or early childhood education.
- Master's degree in education or administration from an accredited university, preferred
- Minimum of five years successful teaching experience
- Direct experience with use of primary and elementary materials and resources currently in use in the district
- Experience in working with or teaching adults
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in use of technology
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
