Conway High School is looking for individuals to serve as Academic Coaches for its AVID program. AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) provides support for college-bound students through rigorous high school classes. Academic Coaches serve as facilitators to encourage students’ collaboration, inquiry, and critical thinking.

• Enrolled in or graduated from a technical college or university.
• Demonstrates proficiency in written and spoken communication
• Experience working with adolescents preferred

• Takes an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of AVID students.
• Assists students in the successful completion of college eligibility requirements.
• Provides academic support for students in rigorous courses.
• Encourages students to enroll in a four-year college or university after high school graduation.
• Serves as a role model/mentor to AVID students by being a lifelong learner, demonstrating appropriate academic and social behaviors, and wearing appropriate attire at all times.
• Is positive, professional, prepared and prompt at all times.
• Assists students in maintaining their AVID binders (with calendar, assignment sheets, Tutorial Request Forms, and daily Cornell notes in all academic classes).
• Participates in AVID field trips and motivational activities (when possible).
• Becomes familiar with the specific routines and expectations of each AVID teacher’s classroom.
• Facilitates the tutorial learning process and implements AVID methodologies.
• Supports district/site mission, policies, and procedures.
• Completes 16 hours of initial tutor training and ongoing training as needed with site coordinator.
